Declan Rice is expected to be a top transfer target for Arsenal among other Premier League sides but their move for the West Ham captain could hinge on the decisions of rivals such as Manchester City and Chelsea.

Rice is expected to leave West Ham this summer when he enters the final two years of his contract and the Gunners see the 24-year-old as a long-term option in defensive midfield.

The Hammers have struggled this season and could still be relegated but Rice is still likely to be sold regardless of which league West Ham are playing in next season.

TARGET: Arsenal ready to launch 'secret weapon' to sign Declan Rice

However, a transfer could hinge on West Ham’s ability to sign a replacement, with Kalvin Phillips of City and Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher among the top targets for David Moyes.

Both England internationals face uncertain futures at their clubs after disappointing campaigns, however Gallagher could be the most likely option, with City reluctant to sell Phillips just one year after his arrival despite the 27-year-old only playing 65 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Chelsea are looking to raise funds this summer through sales and Gallagher is one of their most valuable assets, meaning the Blues could cash in on the 23-year-old despite it indirectly helping Arsenal secure their man.

Why Arsenal could have free run at Rice

Chelsea were considered front runners for Rice in previous years but their interest in the England star is believed to have cooled since the takeover of Todd Boehly last year.

Liverpool were also admirers of Rice but the Reds are set to focus on a move for Jude Bellingham, while Manchester United are targeting a more creative midfielder after signing Casemiro last summer.

As a result, Arsenal could have a free run at Rice, with the Gunners looking for a long-term successor to Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny.

Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo is also thought to be on Mikel Arteta’s shortlist and Arsenal could move for both him and Rice if it is financially viable as they seek to build on a hugely successful season.
