Spurs urged to hijack Chelsea's Pochettino pursuit

Chelsea are closing on the permanent appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as manager, his former employers Tottenham Hotspur should swoop in to sign him from under their London rivals' noses according to one Premier League legend.

Pochettino is set to become the fourth manager of the Todd Boehly era, after Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard, with the Argentine replacing Lampard at the end of the current campaign.

Pochettino has been out of work since leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season, and he previously led Tottenham to the Champions League final in 2021.

Pochettino has never sold his house in London, and some sections of the Spurs support had been hopeful of a return before now - although Chelsea have all but announced that he will be managing across the British capital next season.

Tottenham are also looking for a new manager after parting ways with Antonio Conte last month, and Stan Collymore thinks Daniel Levy is missing a trick.

What did Collymore say?

"I can't believe Spurs haven't tried to rival Chelsea for Mauricio Pochettino," he told Caught Offside.

"He still hasn't been confirmed as Chelsea's new permanent boss, so if I was Daniel Levy I would go to him and say: 'we'll offer you better terms, we'll give you plenty of time and we'll finally spend the money needed to bring in some top quality players.'"

"I don't know if Levy’' pride is stopping him from trying to re-hire Pochettino or not, I don't think the pair ended on really bad terms, but I don't think it was a particularly pleasant departure either.

"I am sure there is still some frustration on Pochettino's part over the way he was treated and how his time in London came to an end."

Pochettino won Ligue 1 with PSG last season, and he has reportedly already sounded Achraf Hakimi out about the possibility of following him to Stamford Bridge.
