Man United want Gabri Veiga: the details
Manchester United are closely monitoring the performance of Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga, with a potential summer move on the cards.
Football Insider report that the 20-year-old has been a subject of interest for the club’s scouts, as the club is searching for a new central midfielder. Although Marcel Sabitzer is the primary midfield target, Veiga is also on the list should other options fail.
Veiga has enjoyed a breakthrough season in Spain and has received several positive reviews from scouts. He made his debut in 2020 and has since scored nine goals and provided four assists in 30 matches this season.
Veiga has a release clause of £35 million in his contract. Additionally, Man United is reportedly in the lead to secure a deal for a 22-year-old player worth £40 million.
Celta's president on player's future
Celta's president has confirmed that there are multiple clubs interested in Veiga, with Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Newcastle United reportedly among them.
“We will only let Gabri Veiga leave for the release clause. There are many clubs interested,” said Carlos Mourino.
“Real Madrid have not asked us for him, then we don’t know if they called Gabri.
“Four of the top 10 Premier League clubs asked for info about Gabri Veiga.”
Veiga has been something of a revelation post-World Cup, hitting superb form for the La Liga side.
It comes after the news that Manchester City also want the young star.
Pep Guardiola wants reinforcements in central areas ahead of next season - with the futures of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva up in the air, with both linked with a switch to Barcelona.
