Ten Hag made 'one of the worst decisions in football history', Man Utd told

Manchester United and Erik ten Hag have come under serious fire after Cristiano Ronaldo's latest impressive performance in Saudi Arabia.

The Portuguese superstar was axed by the Red Devils boss in November after he made his outrage about how the Dutchman and the club were treating him public. In an interview with controversial TV host Piers Morgan, Ronaldo said of Ten Hag: "I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me. If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you."

His contract was terminated shortly thereafter, and the Portuguese legend departed for Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia. Since arriving in the Saudi Pro League, the 38-year-old has been in outstanding goalscoring form, finding the back of the net 11 times in just nine games.

In his latest outing, a 5-0 demolition of Al-Adalah, Ronaldo scored a brace which included an impressive left-footed finish, taking his career tally of scoring with his supposed weaker foot to 156. In the wake of his performance, Piers Morgan again had some choice words for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United.

What did Morgan say?

Quote tweeting a video of Ronaldo's second goal, Morgan wrote: "Two more goals for @Cristiano so far tonight, including this superb one which once again suggests Ten Hag’s decision to dump him for Wout Weghorst was one of the worst in football history."

As is customary for Morgan's tweets, it garnered a vociferous response, with some applauding Ronaldo's longevity, while others rushed to point out the low standard of play in the Saudi Pro League.

As for Ten Hag, he recently leapt to the defence of Weghorst, saying: "He's doing a really good job for us." Weghorst has not yet scored in the Premier League since his loan arrival from Burnley, but ten Hag suggested that his compatriot is doing more work for the team than Ronaldo would be doing.

"He is the leader of our press and links up really well. He makes good movements and makes space for others and is good in set-plays. He is really contributing to this team."
