Wrexham sealed promotion back to the Football League with a 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood on Saturday night, clinching the National League title after a season-long fight with fellow challengers Notts County.

The Welsh club have been absent from the top four divisions of English football since 2008 and were narrowly beaten by Grimsby Town in the National League Play-Off semi-final last year.

However, they bounced back in style this season and romped to the title with one game to spare.

Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have changed Wrexham's fortunes since they bough the club in 2020, with stars from higher divisions dropping down in order to help them achieve promotion to League Two.

Reynolds and McElhenney even convinced former Manchester United and Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster to come out of retirement and see out the rest of the season following an injury to previous number one Mark Howard.

League Two football will be played at the Racecourse Ground next campaign, and the question will quickly turn to how Wrexham will fare in the fourth tier of English football.

Paul Mullin, who has netted 36 league goals for Wrexham this term, was League Two's top goal-scorer in the 2020/21 season when he bagged 32 goals to help Cambridge United achieve promotion to League One, while Ben Tozer was playing regularly for Cheltenham Town in League One last season.
