Lacazette scores FOUR in one game - he’s destroyed Gabriel Jesus this season

When Arsenal signed Gabriel Jesus last summer, they hoped he would solve a striker problem that had become a glaring issue at the Emirates.

And in terms of his overall game and influence on the team, Jesus has been an excellent signing for Arsenal.

He sets the tone for everything that Arsenal do well. He presses from the front perfectly, making it extremely difficult for the opposition to get out.

His movement and link-up play is superb - especially with Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, allowing the two outside attackers to flourish.

His hold-up play and his work with his back to goal is very impressive and - despite his injury that kept him sidelined for a few months - he has been an important player in Arsenal’s title challenge.

But there is one thing that is missing from Gabriel Jesus’ game – he just doesn’t score enough goals.

He has just 10 goals in 29 games in all competitions - a return that probably isn’t enough for a team who wants to win the Premier League. It helps explain why Man City will win the league. They have Erling Haaland.

The striker Jesus replaced at Arsenal, Alexandre Lacazette, has not stopped scoring since returning to Lyon.

His incredible four-goal haul in an unbelievable 5-4 win over Montpellier on Sunday (Elye Wahi also scored four for the visitors) took Lacazette’s seasonal tally to 28 goals in 35 games this season.

With 24 goals in Ligue 1, he is now the top-scorer in the division ahead of superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Of course, no one is doubting that Ligue 1 is weaker than the Premier League.

And no one is suggesting that Lacazette’s all-round game is at the level of Jesus’.

But for purely goalscoring, Lacazette has been head and shoulders above Jesus in 2022-23.

Lacazette joined Arsenal from Lyon in 2017, play 206 times for the club and scoring 71 goals in the process.

However, the France attacker lost form in his final season, scoring just six goals - four in the Premier League.

Now 31, Lacazette has demonstrated that he still has plenty to offer.
