SHOCK club leads Man City in race to sign Arsenal ace

The race to land Arsenal star Kieran Tierney is heating up, and new reports claim that Newcastle United are set to beat Manchester City to his signature.

The Gunners left-back has fallen out of favour since the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko at the Emirates. The 25-year-old has been reduced to a peripheral figure, featuring in 34 appearances across all competitions but the vast majority of them coming off the bench.

Rumours about his future have been swirling for some time now, and for a while, it appeared as though he would link up with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City following Arsenal's faltering title challenge. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

New reports, however, claim that City will be pipped to the Scot's signing by the nouveau riche Magpies.

Tierney at St. James'?

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are the new favourites to land Tierney. The report claims that Newcastle's geographical location could tip the scales in favour of Eddie Howe's side as Tierney wants to be closer to his family in Scotland.

The proximity to Scotland is enticing and so is the fact that the Magpies will be playing in the Champions League next term. The project is an exciting one and given that Newcastle have been using 31-year-old centre-back Dan Burn as a nominal left-back this term, Tierney will fancy his chances of winning a starting berth at St. James' Park.

The 25-year-old joined Arsenal for €27 million in 2019 but has seen his stocks drop due to his lack of game time this season and injury troubles in previous years. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has fallen from a peak of €63.6m in late 2021 to €37.2m this month.

The Scot is still under contract for several years, so it could take a sizeable fee to prise him away from Arsenal, who may not be keen on losing high-quality depth given their desire to remain consistent title challengers for the foreseeable future.
