Chelsea are currently leading the race to sign Barcelona star Raphinha, according to reports in Spain.

The Brazilian signed for the Blaugrana from Leeds in a deal worth €58 million last summer and he has had a respectable first season in Spain. The 26-year-old has contributed seven goals and six assists to Barcelona's title challenge. In total, Raphinha has racked up 10 goals and 11 assists across all competitions this term.

Nevertheless, the winger fears that he may lose his spot in the team next season given the rumours about Lionel Messi's return and the fact that head coach Xavi is a big admirer of Ousmane Dembele. Consequently, Raphinha's place on the Brazilian national team would be under threat.

Therefore, claim reports in Spain, the former Leeds man is open to entertaining offers for his services, and he has no shortage of suitors.

Chelsea and Arsenal interested

According to SPORT, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle United are all vying for Raphinha's signature. The same report goes on to say that, somewhat surprisingly, it is the Blues who are considered the favourites to land the Brazilian.

They were already interested in bringing him in when he left Leeds last summer and this desire has not worn off. Moreover, Raphinha's agent Deco still has a good relationship with his former employers at Stamford Bridge and he would play the main role in facilitating a move.

Despite Barcelona not officially putting Raphinha up for sale, they may be forced to let him depart given their dire financial situation and the need to bring in revenue in order to be able to register new players. An offer in excess of €70m would undoubtedly be tempting, although there are questions about whether Chelsea could pay that since they are also struggling with Financial Fair Play.
