The Argentine has enjoyed a real fairytale season. First he helped Argentine achieve World Cup glory in Qatar, then he led Brighton to Europa League qualification, scoring a crucial penalty winner against Manchester United which set the Seagulls on their way.

Accordingly, his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has risen dramatically in recent months, currently peaking at €33.2 million - that's an increase of almost €30m since he arrived on the South Coast in 2019. This, in turn, has attracted the interest of several Premier League giants.

The clear frontrunners are, and have been for a while, Liverpool. The Reds have been working on a deal for several weeks and the completion of the transfer could be announced soon.

Announcement in June

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal will likely be completed in June as that is the only time when Mac Allister's release clause is active. Negotiations are in a very advanced stage, with Romano announcing last week that personal terms had been '90 per cent' agreed.

Indeed, the Italian has now stated that only the final details of the transfer need to be sorted out, so an announcement will likely be made in the next few weeks with Liverpool keen to get their man in as early as possible in order to help him to come to grips with Jurgen Klopp's system seeing as though he will be an important cog in their midfield next season.

The 24-year-old is expected to say his goodbyes to the Brighton faithful - the travelling contingent at least - on Sunday when Brighton play away at Villa Park in what is bound to be an intense affair given Aston Villa's still ongoing battle for a European spot.
