Fabrizio Romano says that Manchester United’s current owners have no current plans to sign Neymar, but that the situation could change this summer if the club is sold to new owners.

It is understood that PSG have placed Neymar on the transfer list and wish to offload him in the summer.

The Parisians are unhappy with Neymar’s performances on the pitch, as well as the circus he often brings off it as well.

As a result, Neymar has been heavily linked with a summer transfer to the Premier League - probably the only major league whose teams can afford the Brazilian’s salary.

And on Monday there were some sensational reports that Man Utd and PSG were in talks over a transfer to Old Trafford.

What did Fabrizio Romano say about Neymar to Man Utd?

"There have been reports in the last 24 hours that Neymar is in the centre of negotiations between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain," Romano said.

"Manchester United are strongly denying this rumour. There are no current negotiations ongoing between United and PSG.

"This is the Man Utd position.

"But it should be understood that this is the position of the current Man Utd ownership, the Glazer family and board.

"We know that Man Utd are in the middle of a negotiation to sell the club.

"Neymar could be a target for a new owner of Man Utd. INEOS group and Skeikh Jassim's Qatari group are still in the race to buy Man Utd.

"But the Glazer family has no plan with Neymar.

"PSG are internally discussing the possibility of selling Neymar. This is a concrete possibility. It could be a loan with option to buy. It could be a permanent transfer.

"But PSG are open to letting Neymar leave. With Man Utd there is nothing, though, with the current ownership."

Neymar’s career at PSG

Neymar smashed the world transfer record when PSG paid his €222 million release clause in the summer of 2017 to buy him from Barcelona.

The Brazilian moved to Paris hoping to escape Lionel Messi’s shadow in order to become the best player in the world.

However, the now-31-year-old has failed to live up to his price-tag and has been plagued by injuries and declining form over recent years.
