Man Utd move for ex-Chelsea star instead of Kane and Osimhen
Manchester United are making a move for ex-Chelsea star Tammy Abraham as an alternative to Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen.
United have made the signing of a top-class striker their priority this summer transfer market. The two main options for the role are Tottenham’s Kane and Napoli’s Osimhen.
However, both players will cost well over €100 million, so United are looking at alternatives. Gazzetta dello Sport reveals that United sent scouts to watch Abraham play for Roma against Milan on Saturday.
European Golden Shoe 2022/23: Haaland enjoys big lead
The Englishman will have impressed them as he scored in a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico.
Gazzetta adds that Roma would demand Abraham’s €80m release clause be paid in order to sell him to United.
Tammy Abraham at Roma
Abraham completed a €40m transfer to Jose Mourinho's side in 2021 - with another €5m in bonuses - after finding himself surplus to requirements at Chelsea. (The Blues do have a buyback option on Abraham for €80m, though in 2024).
The Englishman enjoyed a wonderful first season at the Stadio Olimpico, scoring 27 goals in all competitions from 53 games.
This included some key goals in big matches, including the Rome derby and the winner versus Leicester to put Roma in the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League. The Giallorossi would go on to win that final against Feyenoord to claim their first European title in over 60 years.
Abraham struggling this season
However, Abraham has endured a difficult second season so far. He has scored just nine goals in 45 games in all competitions. This has led to him even losing his first-team spot in some matches.
The striker’s future past the end of the season is in doubt and there are many who feel this could be his last campaign at the Olimpico.
United also have Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani as an alternative to Kane and Osimhen.
