Manchester United are in the market for a number nine, and if they are not keen on spending €100 million, then they could turn to Roma star Tammy Abraham as a bargain option.

Erik ten Hag has revitalised the Red Devils this season, but before a serious Premier League and European challenge can be mounted next season, a proper forward will have to be brought in. The Dutchman even admitted as much not that long ago, stating that in order for United to be able to compete on all fronts, offensive reinforcements need to be signed.

United have been linked with moves for Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, while the names of Randal Kolo Muani and Marcus Thuram have also cropped up now and again.

More recently, former Chelsea man Tammy Abraham - coached by ex-United boss Jose Mourinho at Roma - has emerged as a potential option, and he could be had for a steal.

Roma's asking price

According to Calciomercato, Roma have put a €40-45m price tag on the 25-year-old, who has struggled to recapture his blistering form of last season this term.

Though clearly not of the same calibre as €100m men Kane and Osimhen, such a comparatively low fee for Abraham could prove quite attractive to Erik ten Hag given some of the uncertainty around United's budget for this summer due to the ongoing ownership battle.

The Red Devils will have to face stiff competition for his signature, though. Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham are also linked with the English forward, while Chelsea were previously said to be interested in bringing him back, but they were unwilling to trigger their €80m buy-back clause.

Even if United don't pull off the signing, Abraham could still prove key to fixing their forward woes: if he ends up at Tottenham, Spurs may be less reluctant to let Harry Kane go, opening the door for an Old Trafford move.
