Chelsea have agreed terms with Mauricio Pochettino to become their new head coach - with the Argentine set to take up his new role in the summer.

The details of the deal are expected to be finalised soon, but Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the former Tottenham boss will take up the job at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino will work alongside Jesus Perez, Miguel D’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and his son Sebastiano Pochettino, all of whom will join some of the current backroom staff.

It is reported that Pochettino will collaborate with Chelsea’s sporting directors and Frank Lampard, the current interim head coach, before the season ends.

Pochettino was considered to be the favourite to take up the role, but it has taken a while for the finer details to be ironed out.

Chelsea have endured a torrid season - they have failed to reach a Champions League or even Europa League spot.

They sacked Thomas Tuchel at the beginning of the campaign after a string of poor results, before hiring Graham Potter, taking the Englishman from Brighton.

But Potter was unable to turn around the fortunes of the club - and he was sacked last month despite getting Chelsea into the Champions League quarterfinals.

Club legend Lampard took over on a temporary basis - but he has struggled to get the club going in the right direction as well.

There is a lot to be expected of Pochettino, who led Tottenham to their best-ever campaign in the Premier League, as well as a Champions League runners-up finish.

But he was sacked after a poor start to the subsequent season.

After Spurs, he joined Paris Saint-Germain, where he won the Coupe de France in May 2021 before going on to clinch the Ligue 1 title the following season.
