Chelsea get Romano's 'HERE WE GO' for priority transfer

Chelsea's signing of Nicolas Jackson is a done deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues appear to have found the solution to their striker woes. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku failing to have the desired impact and both likely to get sold this summer, Chelsea have had to dip into the market to bring in a new number nine.

Heavily linked to Victor Osimhen, the London club ultimately settled on a comparative bargain: Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal. Napoli would have wanted in excess of €100 million, perhaps as much as €150m, for Osimhen, but his Senegalese counterpart is set to clock in at just a little over €35m.

Chelsea are set for a more low-key transfer window compared to the last two record-breaking ones, though it must be said that, with the arrivals of Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, their spending is already close to €100m again.

The number nine solution?

Gambia-born Jackson really burst onto the scene last season. A dynamic, smart forward, who is also no slouch physically, the 22-year-old Senegal international racked up 12 goals in 26 LaLiga outings for Villarreal in 2022/23.

As a Premier League club, it is a risk going for a LaLiga player off the back of a solitary impressive campaign - as Manchester United had to find out with former Villarreal man Eric Bailly - but Jackson has all the trappings of becoming a great forward.

The negotiations dragged on a bit despite the player being keen on a move. Villarreal wanted to squeeze more money out of the deal than just his €35m release clause and they appear to have done that, but the additional sum doesn't seem significant, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Once a medical has been completed, Nicolas Jackson will be a Chelsea player and slot right into Mauricio Pochettino's new-look side.
