On Wednesday, Marca sensationally reported that Liverpool have sensationally a €300 million bid for Mbappe.

The report claimed that the Reds are ready to pay €250m plus €50m in add-ons to sign the France attacker.

This would make Mbappe the most expensive player in football history, shattering the current world record of Neymar following his €222m move to PSG from Barcelona in 2017.

This report was supported by the words of FIFA agent Marco Kirdemir, who told Marca: “Liverpool are competing with Real Madrid and want to pay a fortune for Mbappe.”

But Romano has shot down this talk.

What did Romano say about Mbappe to Liverpool?

“Fifa agent Marco Kirdemir raised some eyebrows with his quotes to Marca, where he said: ‘Liverpool are competing with Real Madrid and want to pay a fortune for Mbappe,’” Romano wrote on CaughtOffside.

“Sorry to disappoint you, Liverpool fans, but I’m not aware of anything concrete between Liverpool and Mbappe at this stage. Nothing has changed for Mbappe, PSG have been very clear: sign new deal or leave the club this summer, this is PSG’s position for the last two weeks.”

Although Jurgen Klopp and Mbappe mutually admire each other, Real Madrid remain the hot favourites to be the Frenchman’s next club.

Earlier this month, Mbappe told PSG that he doesn’t intend to trigger the option in his current contract - which expires in 2024 - of extending by a further year.

Mbappe notified PSG in a written letter, which immediately sparked reports that the attacker will make his long-expected transfer to Real Madrid this summer.

However, Mbappe has stressed that he will see out the final year of his PSG contract and will not leave in 2023.

According to the French media, PSG plan to sell Mbappe this summer unless he activates the option to extend. This is to prevent them from losing him on a free transfer next year.
