Manchester United are preparing a final offer to Chelsea for midfielder Mason Mount.

United had a £40 million bid rejected previously and are now ready to offer £50m, according to The Mirror.

This offer is likely to be their last as they feel it is more than reasonable for the England international, considering he has one year remaining on his contract.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are reportedly looking for £70m for their two-time Player of the Season award winner.

It is unclear whether the Blues are willing to budge on that, especially by as much as £20m.

Should Chelsea accept £50m?

Mount had a poor 2022-23 season but that shouldn't overwrite his excellent performances in the three seasons prior.

Not to mention, virtually the whole squad struggled in a difficult campaign for the Blues, while Mount also had multiple injury issues to deal with.

So, unless a bid in the region of £70m comes in, Mount should remain part of new head coach Mauricio Pochettino's plans for the upcoming season.

The 24-year-old can be an important player for the Argentine and earn himself the contract that he is looking for at Stamford Bridge.

And, even if he still decides to leave, at least Chelsea can say that they tried to make it work, rather than accepting defeat now by selling him to Man Utd for below his market value.
