Man Utd to make final decision on Greenwood future

The takeover won't influence Manchester United's decision on Mason Greenwood's future, according to reports.

The disgraced forward has not featured for the Red Devils since being arrested last year on charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. These charges were dropped in February.

United suspended the forward when the allegations came to light and they launched an independent investigation into the matter and whether he could feature again for the club following the February decision.

The club has, however, still not made an official call, yet there are hints that the 21-year-old has not played his final game for the club yet. Erik ten Hag has previously suggested that he would be open to reintegrating Greenwood into his team, while United also included the forward on their retained list.

Now, the player has been spotted on a football pitch for the first time since his arrest and new details about United's final decision have emerged.

Decision not influenced by takeover

According to the Telegraph, Manchester United won't wait for the takeover saga to be completed before making a decision on Greenwood's future. The ownership battle between Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been rumbling on for months, but it won't influence United's ruling on the 21-year-old.

This comes after Greenwood was seen training on a public pitch with a personal coach on Thursday, his first appearance with the ball at his feet since last year. United are said to be 'supportive' of his choice to keep fit on his own.

Whether he will end up being reintegrated into the squad remains to be seen, but the player is pushing for a quick conclusion, according to reports. He wants to have his future settled soon.

One thing is clear: if United do elect to keep him around, the decision will be met with protests. Charges dropped don't signify innocence. Manchester United's women's team as well as women's supporters' groups have already spoken out against the prospect of Greenwood being allowed to play for the club again.
