Arthur Melo’s disastrous loan stint at Liverpool has seen the Brazilian draw comparisons with… Taylor Swift, of all people.

The midfielder joined from Juventus on the final day of the 2022 summer transfer window to add depth to the Reds’ midfield – but he would go on to feature just once for Jurgen Klopp’s side, for all of 13 minutes as a substitute.

That came away to Napoli in the Champions League group stage – meaning Arthur never made an appearance for Liverpool at Anfield.

On Tuesday, Swift announced a string of UK tour dates for next year – and, upon seeing that the pop superstar would play a show at the Reds’ history-steeped home, one Twitter user couldn’t resist referencing Arthur’s abysmal seven months with Liverpool.

In a tweet appended by four crying emojis, @Karen31_x wrote: “Taylor Swift will have more appearances at Anfield than Arthur”.

Anfield rarely stages live music events – but the same can be said of Elton John and Rick Astley, among others.

No bad blood between Arthur and Liverpool

Despite recording one of the briefest Liverpool careers in, well, history, Arthur took the time to wish the Reds well as he prepared to head back to Juve – where he still has two years left to run on his contract. In a farewell message on Liverpool’s official website, the 26-year-old said:

“As my contract with Liverpool comes to an end, I would like to thank everyone – coaches, players and staff – for all their support over the last season.

“I want you to know that I will have an eternal gratitude to the club. The fans are undoubtedly one of the most incredible around the world. The emotion of a game at Anfield is really impressive.”

So, even though he never took to the hallowed turf, at least Arthur got to experience matchday at one of the most iconic grounds in world football.
