Pickford reveals FINAL transfer decision after Man Utd and Chelsea interest

Jordan Pickford has confirmed his desire to stay at Everton and help steer the club away from the lower reaches of the Premier League, despite previous interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Pickford, 28, has been linked with a transfer away from Goodison Park, with the aforementioned two clubs keeping a keen eye on his situation at Everton.

Both Man Utd and Chelsea were interested in signing the England international, although it appears neither will end up signing him this summer.

The Red Devils are set to acquire Andre Onana’s services from Inter Milan, while it seems that Mauricio Pochettino will trust Kepa Arrizabalaga as the number one at Stamford Bridge.

Furthermore, Pickford has stressed that he wants to stay at Everton and help them climb back up the Premier League table.

What has Pickford said?

He was questioned whether he would stay at Everton at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club before the Open Championship, which kicks off next week. "Definitely," he replied. "I’ve just signed a new contract and I’m happy and my family is happy so now we just want to move forward as a club.

“We should never have been in that position," he added about their fortunes last season. "We lost a lot of games that we shouldn’t have ever lost, or we had chances where we should have taken points from more games.

“It was our own fault that we ended up in that position. But it does show the type of characters we are to get out of that situation. We need to knuckle down and work hard on the training pitch.”

Everton have responded to their relegation scare by signing Ashley Young on a free transfer from Aston Villa, but he is their only addition thus far.

“I think the manager would like [to make more signings] that,” Pickford added. “I’m not the manager, but I think we have a good squad.

”In the Premier League, you always want to get better and move forward and in the right direction. As a team, you always want to be strong.”

The Toffees finished 17th in the top flight last season, two points and only one place clear of relegation to the Championship. It came after they ended the 2021/22 campaign in a disappointing 16th place following a promising 2020/21 season in which they finished 10th.
