United are pushing hard to sign Hojlund as they look to enhance their attacking options, while Pavard has emerged as a potential defensive target.

In the case of Hojlund Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini would like the 20-year-old Dane’s future to be resolved as soon as possible (although that doesn’t necessarily mean that he will join Man Utd).

The Serie A club are said to be holding out for as much as €70m for their prodigious frontman, who they only signed from Strum Graz 11 months ago.

As for Pavard – who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €24.6m – German journalist Philipp Kessler reports that the 27-year-old Frenchman has made it clear he wants to leave Bayern in search of a regular spot at centre-back.

Mind you, whether he would find that at Old Trafford is rather debatable: there’s little to suggest Erik ten Hag would want to deviate from his preferred centre-half pairing of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

United’s squad steadily takes shape

Man Utd made their first signing of the summer earlier this month, bringing in Mason Mount from Chelsea in a deal which could end up being worth £60m.

Jonny Evans has also re-joined the club on a short-term contract to allow him to play in pre-season friendlies, although the former Leicester City defender seems unlikely to stay on anything other than a temporary basis.

Another big name looks set to come through the door any day now, though: United have agreed a €54m (£47m) deal to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan to succeed David de Gea as their first-choice goalkeeper.
