Rasmus Hojlund refused to negotiate personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain due to his desire to join Manchester United, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Atalanta forward is expected to be officially unveiled at Old Trafford in the coming days, with the Red Devils finally reaching a deal with the Serie A after weeks of negotiations.

Man Utd could pay up to €85 million for the Danish striker if all add-on clauses are met, but their pursuit of Hojlund was briefly interrupted by PSG, who entered the race for his signature following Kylian Mbappe’s refusal to sign a new deal.

The French superstar is expected to leave the Parc des Princes this summer after being placed on the transfer list by club president Nasser Al Khelaifi following his decision to reject the chance to sign a new contract.

Mbappe’s current deal is set to expire in 2024, which is why Al Khelaifi want to sell him this window.

Hojlund soon emerged as a candidate to take Mbappe’s place through the middle at PSG, with the Ligue 1 giants tabling a €50m bid. However, that was swatted aside by Atalanta.

Hojlund only wanted Man Utd

Speaking to the United Stand, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Hojlund did not negotiate personal terms with PSG as he wanted to join Erik ten Hag’s side.

The Dane is expected to become Man Utd’s first-choice number nine, something that appealed greatly to him as a boyhood Red Devils supporter.

Back in January, he told Danish news outlet Ekstra Blader: “Now that you ask, I won't hide the fact that I'm a huge Manchester United fan. So personally, it'd be one of the biggest things for me. Of course that doesn't mean that I'd turn down other big clubs if the offers come at some point."

However, Romano has reported that Hojlund did in fact turn down another big club - in this instance, PSG - in order to join Man Utd.

He will become the club’s fourth summer signing after Mason Mount, Jonny Evans and Andre Onana.
