Fantasy Premier League: How do FPL bonus points work?

The new season of Fantasy Premier League is here, with FPL managers hoping for another good season on the popular Fantasy Football app.
With a budget of £100 million to spend, FPL managers must pick 15 players - 11 starters and four subs - and are allowed one free transfer each week to make alterations.
FPL has several different rules and extra ways of scoring points, including ‘chips’ such as Wildcard, Free Hit and Triple Captain.
Another way of scoring extra points is via the FPL Bonus Points System. As well as scoring points for actions such as goals, assists, clean sheets and penalty saves, players are able to increase their points tally through bonus points.
Bonus points are a valuable and important aspect of FPL and play a key role in helping managers rack up impressive points hauls every single week.

FPL Bonus Points Explained
FPL bonus points are handed out in every single Premier League match, with the Fantasy Premier League app using the ‘Bonus Points System’ to determine which players receive bonus points each match.
The Bonus Points System (BPS) uses a range of statistics provided by Opta and the three players who score the most points on the BPS are awarded bonus points in FPL.
The player with the highest tally on the BPS is given three points, while second is awarded two points and third is handed one point.
The official Fantasy Premier League website says that BPS ties will be resolved like this:
- If there is a tie for first place, Players 1 & 2 will receive 3 points each and Player 3 will receive 1 point.
- If there is a tie for second place, Player 1 will receive 3 points and Players 2 and 3 will receive 2 points each.
- If there is a tie for third place, Player 1 will receive 3 points, Player 2 will receive 2 points and Players 3 & 4 will receive 1 point each.
