Fantasy Premier League 2023-24: The best FPL team for Gameweek 4
Fantasy Premier League 2023-24 has begun and the deadline for Gameweek Four is fast approaching.
As always, FPL managers have a budget of £100 million to spend on 15 players, with 11 starters being supplemented by four bench options every week.
FPL managers must select two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards with their £100m budget, with more emphasis placed on the starting XI.
Here is FootballTransfers’ selection for the best Gameweek Four team in FPL 2023-24.
Using the cheapest options possible for the bench - a £4m goalkeeper, a £3.9m defender, a £4.4m midfielder and a £4.4m forward - there is £83.3m left for the starting XI.

Formation: 3-4-3
Goalkeeper: Alphonse Areola - West Ham (£4.1m)
Alphonse Areola has been handed a price boost to £4.1m this week, but he is West Ham’s first-choice and a trip to Kenilworth Road could see him return with an impressive haul.
In Luton’s first home game since promotion to the Premier League, Rob Edwards’ side will hope to put on an impressive showing, but their only goal so far this season was a Carlton Morris penalty against Brighton and they were fairly lacklustre against Chelsea.
Areola already has 18 points this season, which is only one point less than Bernd Leno and Guglielmo Vicario, who lead the way for goalkeepers.
Defender: Destiny Udogie - Tottenham (£4.6m)
We recommended Destiny Udogie last week and he backed up the hype with a 12-point haul against Bournemouth, thanks to an assist, a clean sheet and three bonus points.
The 20-year-old is another strong pick this week with an away trip to Burnley, who conceded four against Aston Villa in GW3.
Ange Postecoglou’s side look in great form and Udogie is an excellent pick at just £4.6m
Defender: Malo Gusto - Chelsea (£4.1m)
Malo Gusto is guaranteed to start for Chelsea due to Reece James’ injury and he displayed his attacking potential with two assists against Luton.
Nottingham Forest have conceded six goals in their opening three Premier League matches and lost 1-0 to Burnley in midweek in the Carabao Cup.
Chelsea also kept their first clean sheet of the campaign versus Luton, meaning Gusto has the potential for big points despite his low price.
Defender: Josko Gvardiol - Man City (£5.1m)
Josko Gvardiol appears the most likely Man City defender to start following his €90m summer move from RB Leipzig and therefore he’s a great pick as Pep Guardiola’s side host Fulham this weekend.
The Cottagers have lost talismanic figure Aleksandar Mitrovic and Man City will be confident of three points and a vital clean sheet. Gvardiola has played at left-back so far, meaning attacking returns are possible too.
Midfielder: Jarrod Bowen - West Ham (£7m)
Jarrod Bowen has bagged 23 points in FPL 2023-24, which can only be topped by three players in the game. The West Ham star scored 12 points in a surprise 3-1 win away to Brighton last weekend after his nine-point haul on opening weekend.
West Ham sit second in the Premier League, despite losing captain Declan Rice, and a trip to Luton is an appealing fixture.
Midfielder: Bukayo Saka - Arsenal (£8.6m)
Bukayo Saka scored 10 FPL points during the opening set of fixtures, which was the highest tally of any midfielder in the game, but after blanking against Crystal Palace, he netted eight points versus Fulham.
Arsenal face a tricky test on paper against Man Utd, but Saka has scored three goals and provided two assists in seven career appearances versus the Red Devils, making them his joint favourite opponent - in terms of goal contributions - along with Tottenham and Liverpool.
Midfielder: Bryan Mbeumo - Brentford (£6.7m)
Bryan Mbeumo scored a penalty in Brentford’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham in Gameweek One before backing that up with two goals and three bonus points in the Bees’ 3-0 win over Fulham in week two.
He may have scored only two points against Crystal Palace, but the Cameroon international will be eyeing up an exciting fixture at home to Bournemouth.
Midfielder: Raheem Sterling - Chelsea (£7.2m)
Raheem Sterling has arguably been the best player in the Premier League so far this season and he finally ended his goal drought with a brace against Luton.
The Englishman had scored just three league goals since August 2022 before he notched two against Rob Edwards’ team last Friday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are still getting into their stride, but Sterling is a great option against a Nottingham Forest side who have kept one clean sheet since February.
Forward: Erling Haaland - Man City (£14m)
Erling Haaland has scored three goals so far this campaign - despite missing a penalty against Sheffield United - and a home game against Fulham provides a perfect opportunity to add to his goal tally.
The Norwegian scored in both games against Marco Silva’s side last campaign and will be looking to net once again against the Londoners.
Forward: Taiwo Awoniyi - Nottingham Forest (£6.5m)
Taiwo Awoniyi has scored in seven consecutive Premier League matches and will be looking to increase that incredible run against a Chelsea side who still look vulnerable at the back.
The Blues struggled with West Ham’s counter-attacking ability at the London Stadium and Forest have a similar style, meaning Awoniyi could exploit the issues in Chelsea’s backline.
Forward: Yoane Wissa - Brentford (£6.2m)
Yoane Wissa has the highest number of FPL points of any forward so far this season (22) and he’s also registered the most bonus points (5) too.
The Brentford star will be hoping to get back on the scoresheet against Bournemouth, who have conceded six goals in their opening three league games.
