Man Utd have a set budget and they need to move on a number of players to ensure that they can bring any further names in.

Maguire has agreed personal terms with West Ham but there are now issues over the England international’s compensation fee, reports The Guardian.

The Red Devils are considering bringing in a right-sided centre-back but will only move for one if Maguire is moved on.

The problem is down to the salary increase as a result of Man Utd qualifying for the Champions League last season - he will be set to miss out on a huge chunk by moving to the Hammers.

It comes after Man Utd beat Wolves 1-0 at Old Trafford on Monday night. The club were very much on the back -foot for the majority of the match, with Raphael Varane’s header goal being the difference-maker.

Andre Onana cluttered into Wolves forward Sasa Kalajdzic late on but VAR ruled that it was not a penalty.

The goalkeeper told reporters after the game what Erik ten Hag instructed: “He gave a strong message inside [the dressing room]. He said we have to remember what is important, the meaning of the first goal, if you score an early goal [in the second half], it’s easier.

"He told us to keep the ball and to control the game. We had to be there for the right moment and I’m very happy the moment came with Rapha [Varane], he did a fantastic job and he was there to score. We have a win because of Rapha today."

Onana added: "A clean sheet is not just for me, it's for all of us. It’s the defence, the midfield and strikers, that shows how strong we are defending. It was brilliant defending, I am really pleased with what we've done."
