Liverpool ICON set for Premier League return

Burnley will try to sign former Liverpool striker Divock Origi from AC Milan before the end of the transfer window, according to reports.

Burnley returned to the Premier League under Vincent Kompany as Championship winners last season, but 17-goal top scorer Nathan Tella has since joined Bayer Leverkusen from parent club Southampton.

Promising Switzerland striker Zeki Amdouni been acquired from Basel for €18.6 million, but Kompany would like further reinforcements in attack and reportedly has Origi at the top of his list.

"Burnley are trying to sign former Liverpool striker Divock Origi from Milan," report talkSPORT. "Leiceste's Patson Daka is also on the shortlist… as a Belgium international, Clarets manager Vincent Kompany will know him well."

Origi and Kompany spent five years as Belgium international teammates before the latter retired from international duty in 2019.

Origi's career highlights

Origi spent eight years at Anfield between 2014 and 2022 - with two seasons spent on loan with Lille and Wolfsburg - before leaving for Milan on a free transfer last July.

Despite being a bit-part player under Jurgen Klopp, the German rates him highly and he helped them to Champions League glory in 2019 and the Premier League title the following season.

The 28-year-old only tallied two goals and one assist in Serie A last season, but 17 of his 27 appearances were from the bench with Olivier Giroud preferred at the point of the attack.

Origi, whose highest ETV was €26.7m, is now valued at €8.4m by FootballTransfers' in-house algorithm, but he is under contract at the San Siro until 30 June 2026 and Milan are likely to demand more for him.

With Burnley being a Premier League buyer, they can also afford to pay over the odds. With goals against Barcelona and the like to his name, Origi is a big-game player, and Burnley will consider him worth the risk.
