Liverpool target Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall marked Leicester City’s return to the Championship with a brace as Enzo Maresca’s side came back from 1-0 down to beat Coventry City 2-1 in their opening game of the 2023-24 season.

Coventry captain Kyle McFadzean opened the scoring with a near post header from a Gustavo Hamer corner, but Dewsbury-Hall’s late double ensured the points stayed in Leicester.

His first was a well-guided header after a third-man run into the penalty area, and the second - which came in the 87th minute - was a left-footed strike that nestled into the far top corner. In terms of a transfer audition, with Liverpool likely watching, it was certainly impressive; Dewsbury-Hall’s two goals means he is now the joint top-goalscorer in the Championship, along with Stoke City’s Andre Vidigal.

Dewsbury-Hall was one of six players in the Leicester starting XI who played a role in their relegation campaign last year, with the likes of Youri Tielemans, Caglar Soyuncu, James Maddison and Harvey Barnes all moving onto pastures new.

Tielemans has joined Aston Villa, Soyuncu has moved to Atletico Madrid, while Maddison and Barnes have signed for Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United respectively.

Dewsbury-Hall could be the latest Foxes star to leave the club and sign for one of Europe’s biggest clubs following interest from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Dewsbury-Hall to Liverpool?

AnfieldWatch have reported the Reds are keen on landing Dewsbury-Hall having been impressed by his form at Leicester last season.

Liverpool have lost Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from their midfield roster this summer, with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai the only arrivals.

Southampton star Romeo Lavia has been heavily linked with a transfer to Anfield, but Klopp’s side have not yet submitted a suitable offer to the Saints.

It’s understood that Dewsbury-Hall isn’t seen as a direct alternative to Lavia, given their different styles, but he is being viewed as a potential option if negotiations with Southampton continue to drag on.
