Liverpool back to square one as transfer targets elude them

Liverpool could rekindle their interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch after missing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
Caicedo completed a £100m move from Brighton to Chelsea on Monday (August 14), after the Ecuadorian snubbed Liverpool despite the Reds having a British-record bid accepted just three days earlier.
And Lavia appears poised to join Caicedo at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues agreeing an initial £53m fee for the Southampton and Belgium starlet.

According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool have opened talks with Gravenberch’s entourage about a potential deal for the Dutch international.
However, the Reds could face stiff competition for his signature – from their arch-rivals Manchester United.
Gravenberch only joined Bayern from Ajax last summer, completing a €18.5m switch – but he has found minutes hard to come by for the Bundesliga giants, starting just six games in all competitions last season.
It would appear that the 21-year-old is already surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena – and, despite having an Estimated Transfer Value of €49.1m, it was reported back in June that he could be available for barely half that amount.

Liverpool’s problem position
It has been a poor summer transfer window for Liverpool – certainly by their exceedingly high recent standards.
Jurgen Klopp has been able to make just two additions to his squad so far: Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, who joined from Brighton and RB Leipzig respectively for £95m (€111.1m) combined.
Both players represent quality pick-ups for the Reds, but their defensively frail performance in Sunday’s Premier League opener away to Chelsea – which finished 1-1 – showed just how desperately they still need more steel in the middle of the park, having seen the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho leave.
