Man City eye transfer BREAKTHROUGH after €60m target goes on STRIKE
Manchester City target Matheus Nunes has gone on STRIKE to push a deal through after seeing his transfer blocked by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Nunes has become Pep Guardiola’s latest target following the arrival of Jeremy Doku and the failed attempt to sign Lucas Paqueta, with City seeing a bid of €55 million rejected by Wolves last week.
City are expected to return with a new bid, thought to be worth roughly €60m, although Wolves are understood to be holding out for a fee in excess of €80m.
NO DEAL: City see bid for 'one of the best players in the world' rejected
Wolves will likely resist any bid below their valuation and Nunes is set to be fined by the club after refusing to train in the hopes of convincing the Midlands side to sell.
Despite risking the wrath of Wolves, The Atheltic report that Nunes will likely be brought back into the squad once the transfer window closes on Friday, assuming City do not submit an acceptable bid.
Nunes has been one of Wolves’ most important player since joining from Sporting Lisbon last summer, having been a long-term target for Liverpool as well as City.
Nunes next up for City after setbacks
City have been in the market for a midfielder after seeing Kevin De Bruyne ruled out with injury for at least three months.
Paqueta was a top target for City and a deal was understood to have been agreed with West Ham before the Brazilian was revealed to be the subject of an investigation by the FA into betting breaches.
The likes of Ebrechi Eze and Dani Olmo have also been considered by Guardiola but Nunes is set to be the sole target going into the final few days of the transfer window.

Guardiola had previously described Nunes as ‘one of the best players in the world’ when City played Sporting prior to his move to Wolves, while Liverpool were believed to have a ‘first option’ on the 24-year-old, having admired him during his time in Portugal.
