Former Man Utd flop Fred CONFIRMS new Red Devils transfer

Former Manchester United midfielder Fred has confirmed that his Fenerbahce teammate Altay Bayindir is on his way to Old Trafford, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Turkish goalkeeper emerged as a backup option to Andre Onana after the Red Devils were rebuffed by Japanese youngster Zion Suzuki. Current number two Dean Henderson is expected to complete a move to Crystal Palace before the window slams shut in the next few days.

Man Utd tabled a formal offer for Bayindir at the beginning of August, and the move has really picked up a head of steam over the past week.

The 25-year-old had initially travelled to Athens, Greece for a so-called pre-medical to ascertain whether or not a back issue could pose problems in the future, while the last couple of days have been spent in Manchester for proper examinations.

Turkish media and Fabrizio Romano have already announced that the deal is all but done, and now Bayindir's Fenerbahce colleague Fred has confirmed the move.

What did Fred say?

“I wished Altay good luck when he left," Fred said, as relayed by Romano. "He is going to join a great team. Altay will be very happy at Manchester United."

Fred himself only recently signed for the Turkish giants in a €9.7 million move from Man Utd after failing to live up to his €59m price tag at Old Trafford. Bayindir's transfer is expected to be wrapped up shortly, barring any late hiccups.

Should problems arise, however, United have a plan B lined up in the shape of Benfica's Odysseas Vlachodimos. They will face competition for his signature from Nottingham Forest, though.

The side from the East Midlands have already submitted an official bid for the Greek international, who is keen tod depart Benfica after falling out of favour in recent times.
