Amrabat to Man Utd: Romano gives the latest on transfer deal
Sofyan Amrabat’s transfer from Fiorentina to Manchester United continues to one that the player and the Premier League club are intent on completing, Fabrizio Romano has reiterated.
Man Utd have been chasing Amrabat for weeks but a deal has progressed at a painfully slow pace, in part because the Red Devils’ stalling takeover, which has left the club in a state of limbo.
Manager Erik ten Hag has had a reduced budget to spend on players this summer, and while he has signed Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund for a total of €192 million, there had been hope the there would be more money to spend.

Why have Man Utd not signed Amrabat yet?
Man Utd are reliant on sales to raise the funds to allow them to sign Amrabat, transfer market expert Romano explains.
This remains a work in progress for Ten Hag, who is particularly trying to offload Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay in order to free up space in his squad that Amrabat could fill.
Romano has revealed that there is still interest in McTominay, who had previously been linked to West Ham and Newcastle, but no bids have been made for the Scotland international.

On the Van de Beek front, meanwhile, there are ongoing conversations with LaLiga outfit Real Sociedad, but these are “complicated” and there is no guarantee they will reach a successful resolution.
On Ten Hag’s target, Romano explains: “Amrabat is still waiting for Man Utd. But he’s been waiting since June, waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting! But for sure the interest from Man Utd in Amrabat is still concrete, waiting to see what happens with the outgoings.”
Recent reports, meanwhile, have linked Liverpool with another move for Amrabat, but the indications are that the player continues to prioritise a transfer to Manchester United, despite the delays.
