Erik ten Hag’s side have been chasing the 27-year-old Morocco international for weeks but have so far been unsuccessful in landing him due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues.

Man Utd have changed tactics in recent days in their pursuit of the player and instead of trying to match Fiorentina’s €35 million asking price have instead decided to consider a loan for the player.

It was reported on Wednesday that the Premier League side had offered a derisory €2 million offer for the duration of the season, which even gave them an exit clause in January if the deal didn’t work out.

Romano, though, says that this is not the case.

Amrabat to Man Utd: The latest

Taking to his YouTube channel, he explained: “I’m told that Man Utd didn’t send any loan deal bid to Fiorentina. There have been so many rumours about that.

“The only thing that happened today [Wednesday] is that Man Utd, through intermediaries, had conversations with Fiorentina. That’s what happened. They didn’t send a loan bid or anything like that.

“In this conversation, Fiorentina told Manchester United that they could be open to a loan move but only with a guaranteed obligation to buy clause. So Fiorentina want a permanent transfer for Amrabat.

“They are open to a loan with an obligation to buy but there are conditions. So it’s now on Man Utd.

“But it’s not that Man Utd made an offer for €2m to be paid in two instalments. This is something that’s been denied to me on all sides of this story.”

As well as Amrabat, Man Utd are expected to make a transfer move for a left-back before the close of the window, with Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella the likely candidate.
