Man Utd are eager to raise funds that will allow them to remain active in the transfer market until the window closes on Deadline Day, which this season falls on 1 September.

Erik ten Hag has signed Mason Mount and Andre Onana this summer while Rasmus Hojlund’s deal will be announced before Man Utd play Lens at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Ten Hag, though, still wants to add Sofyan Amrabat to his ranks, and with the takeover of the club having stalled, he will have to sell players to make a deal happen.

McTominay and Maguire appear set to be the first two big names out the door, with West Ham closing in on a deal for the pair.

Journalist Alan Nixon has reported that David Moyes’ side have started medicals for the Manchester United duo.

West Ham close to McTominay and Maguire

The medical records of McTominay and Maguire have been sent to West Ham, where they will be studied. It is pointed out that even getting so far in the process suggests that the Hammers are close to securing transfers for both players.

If the transfer window has been frustrating for Ten Hag, it has been even more sluggish at West Ham, where Moyes has so far failed to recruit a single player.

The Hammers have found the going tough in market after selling Declan Rice to Arsenal for €117 million. West Ham have complained that because of the very public nature of that deal, rival clubs know they have money to spend and are quoting them exorbitant prices for their targets.

Man Utd, though, need to sell and are not in a strong bargaining position, making McTominay and Maguire an ideal place for Moyes to finally start his summer shopping.
