Manchester United are ‘seriously considering’ a move for Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon after seeing a loan for Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella stall.

Erik ten Hag has been in the market for a defender after seeing both his options at left back sidelined with injuries and Cucurella was expected to be the player to come in.

However, Cucurella featured for Chelsea in their Carabao Cup win against AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday, which complicated the chances of him making the move to Old Trafford.

LIGHTWEIGHT: United set to SELL left-back despite options dwindling, with Cucurella uncertain

As a result, United have explored the possibility of loaning Reguilon, who has not made an appearance for Tottenham this season, although a deal for Cucurella still remains in play, according to The Athletic.

United will be forced into making a rapid decision, with little over 24 hours until the transfer deadline, and any outcome will be dependent on football and financial decisions, with the club still pursuing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

Amrabat is Ten Hag’s top target for the remainder of the window but United have failed to meet Fiorentina’s asking price for the Moroccan and are exploring a way to finance the deal through a loan, while also considering other targets.

Ten Hag forced to rethink transfer plans at the eleventh hour

United have struggled to make moves in the market since the signing of Rasmus Hojlund earlier this month, which took their summer spending to more than €180 million.

The Red Devils are up against their financial fair play limits and have only been able to generate less than €40m through player sales, preventing moves for targets such as Amrabat and Benjamin Pavard.

An injury to Luke Shaw saw the England international ruled out with injury for up to two months, joining Tyrell Malacia on the sidelines and causing Ten Hag to reassess his transfer priorities in order to fill the new void at left-back.

LIFELINE: United boosted in pursuit of Amrabat

Reguilon was initially considered but United opted to go for Cucurella, however they have so far failed to agree a loan fee with Chelsea, who are understood to be seeking around €5m, prompting the Old Trafford side to reconsider an approach for the Tottenham man.
