Man Utd in transfer pole position as Fiorentina drop Amrabat asking price
Manchester United have been given a lifeline in their pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat after Fiorentina lowered their asking price for the Moroccan.
The 27-year-old is Erik ten Hag’s priority target to bring in before the transfer deadline but United have so far been unable to match Fiorentina’s €30 million price tag.
However, a report in Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claims that the Serie A side have dropped their demands to €25m plus bonuses in order to resolve the player’s future quickly and plan the remainder of their transfer window.
ESSENTIAL: Ten Hag boosted after United secure signing
Fiorentina are looking to avoid a repeat of the last deadline in January where United and Barcelona only made their approaches in the final days of the window, preventing any deal from being struck.
Personal terms have already been agreed with Amrabat and Viola boss Vincenzo Italiano confirmed that the midfielder had been left out of matchday squad for Fiorentina’s next game, having been training on his own away from the first team.
The news could finally be the breakthrough Ten Hag was desperate for, although United may still struggle to conduct a deal before finalising the exits of a number of fringe players.
United desperate to sign midfielder after Mount blow
United’s outlay of more than €200m this summer has left the club in a difficult spot going into the final week of the transfer window, with Ten Hag not having the budget to finish off his squad building.
The club’s need for a midfielder became more pressing after Mason Mount suffered an injury that will keep him out of action for four to six weeks.
SETBACK: How Mount injury forces Man Utd into transfer rethink
Ten Hag had also been hoping to sign a forward but he could feasibly see no new faces arrive before the end of the month, with the departures of Donny van de Beek, Eric Bailly and Dean Henderson not expected to generate a significant income.
United will likely return to the table for Amrabat but the club are also exploring loan options as they look to bounce back from an underwhelming start to the new season.
