Manchester United are still no closer to signing Sofyan Amrabat than they were a month ago, and time is running out.

The Red Devils have been the Morrocan's main suitors in this transfer window and even before it. Indeed, Amrabat already consented to a move to Old Trafford in June. Since then, however, there has not been a lot of movement and the player is still waiting as we head into the final few days of the summer period.

With United having spent almost €200 million on the arrivals of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, they need to generate cash before they can sanction a move for the Fiorentina star, but offloading deadwood has not been easy.

In fact, the likes of Eric Bailly, Donny van de Beek, Dean Henderson, Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire are all still around and what few funds have been raised from sales do not suffice to get Fiorentina to sell. Only Anthony Elanga's move to Nottingham Forest has flushed double-digit millions into United's coffers.

Ten Hag's request

Amarabat has already communicated his desire to depart his Italian club this summer, likely blowing his chance of regaining his previous standing in the side should a move fail to materialise. While still keen on joining United, he may be tempted to seek out other options in order to get his move if the Red Devils continue dithering.

Liverpool and Saudi clubs had previously posed a hijack threat, but Amrabat rejected these approaches because of his desire to join United. With time running out in the window, however, his position may very well change. SPORT are reporting that Atletico Madrid have now entered the race to sign him.

Ten Hag has lodged a request with his superiors to sign the Moroccan as he is his priority midfield target, but as FootballTransfers has been able to confirm, Man Utd are ready to move on from Amrabat and make a loan offer for Ryan Gravenberch after failing to raise the necessary funds for the World Cup star.
