Chelsea SMASH own transfer WORLD RECORD
Despite their difficult start to the new season, which saw them lose 3-1 at West Ham on Sunday, Chelsea actually smashed their own world record for money spent in a single transfer window during the summer of 2023.
The Blues have now spent an incredible €391 million this summer, breaking their own world record from the January 2023 transfer window.
Chelsea paid a British transfer record fee of €135 million for Moises Caicedo from Brighton. His debut was one to forget as he gave away a penalty for West Ham to score their third goal.
They have also spent heavily on a host of other stars, including €68m on Romeo Lavia from Southampton, €58m on Christopher Nkunku from Leipzig, €45m on Axel Disasi from Monaco, €35m on Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal, €29m on Robert Sanchez from Brighton, as well as Rennes’ Lesley Ugochukwu, Santos’ Angelo Gabriel and Benfica’s Diego Moreira.

Chelsea had previously set a new record during owner Todd Boehly’s first transfer window in charge in the summer of 2022.
Last summer he spent €282m on new players, signing the likes of Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Gabriel Slonina and Denis Zakaria.

Despite blowing €612m on new players last season between both transfer windows, Chelsea endured a disastrous season.
They finished 12th in the Premier League and performed poorly in all the cup competitions. They also went through three managers, with both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter sacked before Frank Lampard saw out the campaign as a caretaker coach.
All in all, Chelsea have spent over €1 billion on transfers since Boehly's arrival.
Chelsea will be hoping to perform much better in 2023-24 after this new world record spending spree. They have just one point from their first two games of the 2023-24 season.
