Arsenal have been dealt a major blow with the news that Jurrien Timber needs surgery on an ACL injury, which could well rule their summer signing out until at least the New Year.
And Mikel Arteta’s search for a replacement has thrown up an unlikely name: Reuell Walters.

What position does Walters play in?
Like Timber, Walters is a versatile defender. Primarily a right-back, he can also operate at centre-back – although so far, he seems to have only done so as the right-sided centre-half in a back three.
How good is Walters?
In his profile on Arsenal’s official website, Walters is described as “a determined and attacking right-back”.
While he is still waiting to make his senior debut, he has caught the eye in Premier League 2 (the Premier League’s U23 competition) and was the only non first-team player to go on the Gunners’ pre-season tour of the USA last summer – when he also started their friendly against Nurnberg.
Walters has represented England up to U19 level and is also eligible to represent Germany through his paternal grandmother.
