Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Eden Hazard's future amid rumours of a potential return to Chelsea.

The former Blues star is still a free agent after leaving Real Madrid on June 30 following a torrid time at the Santiago Bernabeu. Los Blancos splashed €115 million on the Belgian winger after he had recorded 110 goals and 92 assists across 352 Chelsea games.

But Hazard never managed to live up to his exorbitant price tag, though a lot of it was due to persistent fitness issues. He ultimately departed with seven goals and 12 assists to his name, having made just 76 appearances.

Since his exit, the 32-year-old has reportedly received several offers from interested clubs, ranging from Major League Soccer to the Saudi Pro League, but the Belgian has knocked all of them back to spend more time with his family.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed what he knows about Hazard's situation.

What did Romano say?

“There’s a lot being speculated about Eden Hazard, who remains a free agent," the transfer expert said in his Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, "but at the moment I’m not aware of anything concrete. There are a lot of rumours, but nothing advanced, because at the moment Hazard is still discussing with his family and those close to him about retirement."

“Retirement for Hazard is a concrete possibility," Romano continued, "but it’s not a final decision yet, and I think when we talk about a big decision like this for an important player like Hazard, I like to be respectful. It’s the player who has to decide and communicate, not for me or other journalists in general."

"For sure he’s considering retirement, but let’s see what he will decide, and I can say that all the rumours about Belgian clubs, or a return to Chelsea or other clubs, none of this was concrete or true."
