The stat that PROVES Chelsea were WRONG about key summer signing
Chelsea’s 2023 summer window spending exceeded €450 million, with Todd Boehly pumping money into the team in a bid to help bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
Moises Caicedo (€116m) was the most expensive new arrival, but the Blues also spent heavily on two new goalkeepers.
With Edouard Mendy leaving on a permanent deal to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, Chelsea turned their attention to signing a new competitor for the number one position.

Brighton & Hove Albion ‘keeper Robert Sanchez was the man they turned to and a €23m bid was accepted by the Seagulls after the Spaniard was demoted to third-choice behind Jason Steele and new addition Bart Verbruggen.
Following Kepa Arrizabalaga’s departure to Real Madrid on loan, Chelsea then spent a further €16m on New England Revolution shot-stopper Djordje Petrovic.
However, the Serbian is yet to make his Blues debut after arriving from the MLS in August.

Sanchez has played all five of Chelsea’s fixtures so far this campaign (four in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup) and has conceded six goals during that time.
But, there is another stat that will worry Pochettino, the Chelsea board and Blues fans alike.
Sanchez’s save percentage
According to statistics website WhoScored.com, Sanchez’s 54.5% save percentage is currently the lowest of any goalkeeper in the Premier League so far this campaign.
That save percentage is the exact same as Kepa’s in the 2019-20 season, when he famously had the lowest save percentage of any goalkeeper in the English top flight (54.5%).
As a result, Sanchez’s statistic will likely worry Chelsea fans, who regularly called for Kepa to be replaced in between the sticks at Stamford Bridge.
Many Blues supporters have already begun calling for Petrovic to become the club’s number one ‘keeper after Sanchez’s start to life in west London.
Petrovic, 23, had a save percentage of 82.7% during the 2022 MLS season and his 184 saves could only be bettered by one goalkeeper during his time in America.
