The relationship between Chelsea and Brighton has become the subject of frequent jokes given the volume of transactions - but this could soon change.

Chelsea are evidently big fans of the brilliant work Brighton are doing and the Blues have accordingly raided the Seagulls on several occasions. Last summer, Marc Cucurella headed to Stamford Bridge in a deal worth €65.3 million.

Brighton boss Graham Potter and several members of his backroom staff soon followed suit when Todd Boehly and company decided to sack Thomas Tuchel. All told, Brighton received some €25m from Chelsea for the coach and his assistants.

Finally, this summer, Moises Caicedo joined the Blues in what could well become a British record transfer of €134m after Chelsea re-hijacked Liverpool's hijack of the deal the London club had been working on for weeks.

Billy Gilmour (permanently) and Levi Colwill (loan) went the other way last term, joining Brighton from Chelsea, but club chief Tony Bloom, the mastermind behind the club's rise to the top, has indicated that the transfer flow between the two could dry up.

What did Bloom say?

Speaking to The Athletic, Bloom said of the frequent business with Chelsea: "We take each situation on its own merits and each one is separate. When Graham went, that was six of our staff all in one go, but we just look at it all individually and every deal is a separate deal and the fact it happens to be one club is the way it is."

"It’s possible over the next two or three years that we have no dealings with Chelsea. So, for me, it’s not personal at all and each individual deal I’ve got to do what’s best for the football club first and foremost."

"If other clubs," Bloom continued, "are interested in our head coaches, staff, players, I much prefer it that way than no one’s looking at any of our players or staff. So, we’re doing something very right. We do everything we can to keep our best players, but we know in the way of the world that won’t always be the case."
