Ryan Gravenberch’s first major decision as a Liverpool player will delight fans of the Anfield club, with the Netherlands international star proving how committed he is to being a success with the Reds by rejecting the opportunity to feature for his country in September.

Gravenberch was a Transfer Deadline Day signing from Bayern Munich, arriving in Jurgen Klopp’s squad for €40 million to become the Reds’ fourth major addition of a summer transfer window that saw them spend €172m in total.

As the last player in, Gravenberch does not want to rush away to hook up with the Netherlands mere days after hooking up with the Merseyside outfit.

Indeed, the Netherlands have confirmed that Gravenberch has insisted that he remains with Klopp & Co for the next fortnight to focus on his club.

The Oranje will face Greece and the Republic of Ireland in two key Euro 2024 qualifiers after picking up just three points from their first couple of matches.

Big move for Gravenberch

Gravenberch knows the importance of his time with Liverpool. Billed as the next big thing with Ajax, he failed to live up to that billing during a stint with Bayern Munich, which the Reds ended with their big-money swoop.

The is pressure on the 21-year-old to impose himself now at Anfield, where the midfield was a weak link last season and has been entirely renovated for the 2023/24 campaign.

Indeed, it has the feel of a make-or-break move for Gravenberch, who is clearly eager to impose himself immediately with his new club.

“I’m very happy,” he told Liverpool’s official website. “If you see it from the outside, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. Also the fans, the stadium, I think everything from the outside is top. So that’s why.”

Gravenberch is aiming to make his Liverpool debut against Wolves on 16 September.
