The transfer window may be closed but Erik ten Hag is contemplating adding another player to his Manchester United squad to replace Jadon Sancho and Antony due to their off-the-pitch issues.

United announced that Antony would be taking a leave of absence following assault accusations by multiple women, which saw him withdraw from Brazil’s squad during the international break.

Sancho, meanwhile, has held showdown talks with Ten Hag this week after reacting strongly on social media to comments surrounding his performances in training, with speculation that the 23-year-old’s career at United could be over.

Both players being unavailable for selection has further added to Ten Hag’s selection woes, with a number of players also sidelined with injury, and the United boss is now considering turning to the free agent market in order to solve the club’s crisis at right wing.

The Daily Mail report that Anwar El Ghazi could be targeted, having left PSV by mutual consent last week and the 28-year-old was at the Emirates Stadium watching United’s defeat to Arsenal last week.

El Ghazi is also understood to have offers from Saudi Arabia but the forward would likely jump at the opportunity to return to the Premier League, having previously played for Aston Villa and Everton.

El Ghazi’s career from the Netherlands to the Premier League

El Ghazi would be the latest former Ajax player to join United, having began his professional career at the Dutch side, although the winger never played under Ten Hag, having left a year before his arrival.

Aston Villa signed El Ghazi on loan in 2018 before making his move permanent the following summer after their promotion from the Championship, with the forward going onto score 15 goals in 71 Premier League games.

However, he fell out of favour with ex-Villa boss Steven Gerrard and eventually went on loan to Everton in January 2022, although he made just two appearances for the club.

El Ghazi went on to sign for PSV last summer and scored eight goals in 23 games, however the Eredivisie side released him on deadline day, allowing him to join a new club on a free transfer.
