Recent results have somewhat taken the spotlight off Ten Hag, but they have done little to ease concerns that the Red Devils still look far from convincing. Before Tuesday's EFL Cup victory over a poor Crystal Palace side, United had only managed to beat relegation strugglers by one-goal margins while losing all games against bigger teams.

Ten Hag and company will hope that the games against Burnley and Palace can act as a springboard for a marked improvement in their fortunes, and there certainly are some promising signs.

Despite the obvious problems, the United hierarchy is said to be happy with Ten Hag's overall work and the Dutchman is set to be rewarded with a new contract.
