The problems at Manchester United just get deeper after Harry Maguire reportedly stormed out of Old Trafford just minutes after the final whistle on Saturday.

United fell to a humiliating 3-1 home defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion, as Erik ten Hag’s men were outplayed by Roberto De Zerbi’s team.

Football Insider, who also claim that Ten Hag faces a player mutiny, report that Maguire ‘stomped out’ of Old Trafford minutes after the defeat.

Maguire was said to be furious after being an unused substitute during the game and decided to exit the stadium.

He has played just 23 minutes of football for Man Utd this season, despite the fact that the team have suffered an injury crisis in defence with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw all missing matches at various times.

Man Utd failed to sell Maguire

United unsuccessfully tried to sell Maguire this summer, with a move to West Ham falling through due to personal terms.

Maguire has endured two miserable past years for Man Utd, ever since Euro 2020.

After an error-prone 2021-22 season, he finally lost his place in the first team during the 2022-23 campaign as manager Erik ten Hag preferred Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as his centre back pairing.

When Maguire did play he often struggled, including two huge errors in the Europa League quarter-final defeat to Sevilla.

Maguire dropped to fifth choice in the centre back pecking order at United by the final months of last season, with left-back Luke Shaw even preferred to him in the absence of Martinez and Varane.

Things have got little better for him in 2023-24.

Maguire joined Man Utd from Leicester in a world record deal for a defender in 2019.
