Man Utd RUSHED Marcus Rashford contract says club legend

Manchester United jumped the gun when they handed Marcus Rashford a new five-year contract in July according to club legend Paul Parker.

Rashford had reportedly been attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain after hitting 30 goals in all competitions last season, as Man Utd lifted the EFL Cup and finished third in the Premier League.

But United negated that by handing their academy graduate a bumper five-year deal which made him the third highest paid player at Old Trafford behind Casemiro and Raphael Varane on £325,000 a week.

Rashford - and indeed the rest of Man Utd - have got off to slower start this season, though, and Parker, who won the Premier League with the club in 1993 and 1994, thinks it was a mistake to give him such a deal.

'Selfish player'

"It's taken people a while but now they're finally seeing that he's not contributing with anything," the former England right-back told MyBettingSites.co.uk. "He should be because he's a fast winger with decent technical abilities, but in fact he's just a selfish player who lives on the back of being good in February.

"I think that Man United rushed in too quickly to give him this huge contract."

Rashford is still valued at €62.3 million by FootballTransfers' in-house algorithm, having enjoyed a highest ETV of €82.7m in late 2021, and should fetch a significant fee should PSG or anybody else come in for him again.

United were busy in the summer transfer market, with Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana and Mason Mount among the headline-grabbing arrivals at Old Trafford.

They were frustrated in their attempts to offload Harry Maguire to West Ham however, with Rashford's England international teammate reportedly unwilling to take a pay cut in order to move to East London.
