Manchester United are in the market for an “immediate” replacement for Antony, according to reports, and have set their sights on Athletic Club star Nico Williams.

The Red Devils have been rocked by the allegations of domestic abuse against the Brazil winger, who took once again to Instagram on Sunday night to deny the claims.

Nevertheless, Antony has been given a leave of absence that is indefinite in terms of its length.

Fichajes reports that manager Erik ten Hag is already sounding out alternatives to the 23-year-old and says that Williams is one of the players who is most closely being examined.

It states: “Man Utd are looking for a right winger who can stand out in the short and long term. The situation of Antony, who is not with the team for non-sporting matters, has forced United to look for an immediate replacement in that position.

“In addition, Jadon Sancho’s uncertain relationship with Ten Hag could open the doors to Williams’ arrival at Old Trafford.”

Will Nico Williams move to Man Utd?

Williams’ situation at Athletic Club is in the balance. The 21-year-old has a contract that expires in June 2024, potentially making him a viable January target if he does not sign a new deal.

But Man Utd face obstacles in landing the Spain international.

Barcelona and Liverpool are both keeping close tabs on the player.

According to Fichajes, Xavi sees the player as his “ideal” signing for the right wing, while Jurgen Klopp could target the winger as a replacement for Mohamed Salah, whose long-term future at Anfield remains in serious doubt given the overtures of interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Williams has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €21.3 million, which is a low figure given his contract situation.

This is ideal for Man Utd, who could drive a January bargain for a highly promising young talent.
