EXCLUSIVE: PSG and Liverpool made failed proposals for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes
Newcastle received proposals from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain for Bruno Guimaraes but the club knocked them back amid contract talks for the Brazilian midfielder, FootballTransfers has been told.
Guimaraes, whose current deal ends in 2026, has been in dialogue with Newcastle over a fresh deal for a number of months, and we are told the attachment of a release clause being one of the key factors in the discussions. It’s our information that it will be not as low as £100m but not as high as £150m.
During the summer, Liverpool offered £100m, including add-ons, but PSG sent a higher fee than the Merseyside club. However, both clubs were met with a firm no from Newcastle, who see Guimaraes as one of their star players.

We are told Mehrdad Ghodoussi, the Newcastle co-owner, is a huge fan of the 25-year-old and has had a hand in encouraging him to remain at St James’ Park.
There is interest in Guimaraes from abroad, including Spain, and Newcastle are anticipating bids in 2024, though their stance at the moment is that they are not prepared to let the player leave.

Newcastle’s torrid start
Newcastle enjoyed a hugely successful campaign last term, returning to the Champions League and finishing fourth in the Premier League.
The club also made it to the League Cup final, losing 2-0 to Manchester United. This season, however, they have been beaten three out of the four times they have played. After a 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa at St James’ Park, the side have suffered losses to Manchester City, Liverpool, and Brighton, respectively.
The midfield has looked disjointed at times and there have been calls that they should have purchased a traditional No.6 in the summer window.
The right wing also looks undernourished, with Miguel Almiron occupying that position. The club were also placed in arguably the hardest Champions League group, having to contest with Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan.
