Arsenal face the anger of Aaron Ramsdale after it was announced that he will not be allowed to depart in the January transfer window.

Ramsdale has been left on the bench for recent matches following the arrival of David Raya on loan from Brentford during the summer.

FootballTransfers exclusively revealed before that deal was concluded that manager Mikel Arteta’s plan was to install Raya as his No.1 ahead of the England keeper, and since the September international break that is what has transpired.

It has not been a decision without controversy, though, with Raya’s performance in the 2-2 draw against Chelsea last weekend drawing criticism.

Ramsdale, meanwhile, has been linked with a potential move to Chelsea in order to get minutes ahead of Euro 2024, which he risks missing if he does not play.

CaughtOffside, however, claims that Arsenal will not allow the goalkeeper to leave during the January transfer window.

Ramsdale showing a professional attitude

Ramsdale has so far shown a thoroughly professional attitude towards his situation and has even been caught on camera applauding the performances of Raya from the bench.

However, the 25-year-old is approaching a key moment in his career. He would have wanted to be England’s top goalkeeper for the European Championship in Germany next summer, but suddenly he finds his place in the squad under threat because he cannot perform with Arsenal.

It would, therefore, be understandable if he were to become frustrated with his situation at the Emirates Stadium. Indeed, it would not be unreasonable for him to request a six-month loan move when January rolls around if he remains second pick behind Raya.

Arteta, meanwhile, has been ruthless with the transfer decisions that he has made since arriving in the Arsenal hotseat, notably allowing Kieran Tierney, previously a fan’s favourite, to depart this summer to Real Sociedad on loan.

Ramsdale could feasibly push for a similar deal.
