Romano names 'one to watch' target for Arsenal
Douglas Luiz to Arsenal could, once again, be a story to watch in upcoming transfer windows, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners are long-term admirers of the Brazilian midfielder. So much so in fact, that they attempted to sign the Aston Villa star back in 2022. Instead of leaving Birmingham for London, however, Luiz signed a new long-term deal at Villa Park that runs until 2026.
Nevertheless, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal sporting director Edu, in particular, remain determined to bring the 25-year-old to the Emirates. Indeed, there were tentative links again in the summer and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes that we have not heard the last of this story.

There is a problem, however - former Gunners boss Unai Emery. The Spaniard has the Villans playing exceptional football and Luiz is an integral part of Emery's side. In 14 games this term, Villa have only drawn or tasted defeat on five occasions and if they keep this up, there is a good chance that they will be playing in a more illustrious competition than just the UEFA Conference League next term.
What did Romano say?
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said of Luiz: "What I can tell is that there are still many top clubs monitoring Douglas Luiz. First of all, I wanted to mention the great job of Aston Villa: they extended his contract recently, he has an important salary now and is an important player for Unai Emery..."
"But it's also important to say for Douglas Luiz that many clubs are keeping an eye on the situation. Arsenal wanted Douglas Luiz one year and a half ago. He's always been a player appreciated by Arsenal director Edu. Let's see what's going to happen in January, if Arsenal will decide to move in that position or not - this is not decided yet."

"But for sure, Douglas Luiz remains a player appreciated by many clubs around Europe, not just Arsenal, but we know the style of the Gunners, they like to keep an eye on the players they have already been following in the past, so for sure Douglas Luiz is going to be one to watch in 2024."
