The Magpies have begun adding star names following the Saudi Arabian takeover in 2021 and are now targeting a move for former Manchester City star Sane.

Fichajes have reported that Sane is on Newcastle’s transfer wish-list as they look to improve the options available to Eddie Howe.

Currently, Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon form Newcastle’s crop of wingers, and Sane is reportedly viewed as the perfect candidate to elevate the level of their attack.

Sane spent four years at Man City between 2016 and 2020 before he left the club to join Bayern for €49 million.

The Germany international has scored 44 goals and provided 37 assists in 143 appearances for Bayern, but Newcastle will reportedly attempt to pry him away from the Bundesliga next year.

Newcastle’s 2024 transfer plans

According to Fichajes, Newcastle have three key transfer targets for next year, namely Sane, Nicolo Barella and Marc Guehi.

The Magpies were heavily interested in signing Barella this summer but were unable to match Inter Milan’s asking price for the Italy international. Instead, Newcastle signed Barella’s countryman Sandro Tonali for €64m.

In addition to Barella and Sane, Newcastle would also like to sign Crystal Palace star Guehi. The England international is now the Eagles’ club captain and has impressed at Selhurst Park since he left Chelsea on a permanent deal in 2021.

As well as adding Tonali, Eddie Howe’s side also signed Harvey Barnes, Valentino Livramento, Yankuba Minteh and Lewis Hall (loan) this summer.

Newcastle are currently eighth in the Premier League table, with 13 points from their opening eight games. They are also top of Group F in the Champions League thanks to four points in the first two matches.
